Description
of Work
The primary
responsibility of the Gas Pipeline Safety Engineer is to
conduct field inspections
of natural gas operators for compliance with
Commission safety rules
and regulations. The position is responsible
for inspecting gas
utilities operating records and pipeline
facilities, including
regulator and relief devices, cathodic
protection systems,
valves, leak repairs and other operational and
maintenance tasks as
required by the Commission rules and regulations.
Duties also include
inspecting new construction, repair of natural
gas mains and high
pressure transmission pipelines. All inspections
will be to ensure
compliance with Title 49, Code of Federal
regulations, Part 40, Part
191, Part 192, Part 193, and Part 199.
Written reports of
inspections noting any and all violations will be
made to the Director of
Pipeline Safety. The candidate selected will
be required to attend and
complete eight courses at the federal
Training and Qualification Center
in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Graduation from a four
year college or university with major study in
engineering is desired or
at least four years experience in natural
gas operations. The
position requires working knowledge of the
principles and practices
of civil and mechanical engineering as
applied to the operation
and construction of natural gas facilities.
Must be computer literate
to use Word, Excel and Outlook. Duties
station is the Dobbs Building,
430 N. Salisbury Street,
Raleigh,
however position does require
travel; thus necessitating a valid North
Carolina driver s license.
Training
and Experience Requirements
Bachelor s degree in
the engineering discipline related to the area of
assignment; or equivalent
combination of training and experience Some
positions may require
licensure by the North Carolina Board of
Examiners for Engineers
and Surveyors. All degrees must be received
from appropriately
accredited institutions. ***If no applicants meet
the competencies of
training and experience requirements, then
management may consider
other applicants. For administrative purposes
during the implementation
of Career-Banding, this job is considered at
salary grade 74. Work is
at the Contributing level*** Degrees must be
from appropriately
accredited institutions.
